Bluehost is one of the world’s largest hosting companies, and as part of their hosting web service, they provide domain name registration also. If you already purchased a domain name but aren’t satisfied with the Bluehost registrar provider, don’t worry! You can transfer it to another registrar without hassle or stress. Once you initiate the domain transfer, you can manage your domain settings and bill at the new company. You can use your domain as a Private DNS or set it up for Google Apps, and they’ll also let you know through email or notification when your domain name is close to expiring so you don’t get any downtime from missed or late domain renewals.
This article will cover how to transfer your domain from a Bluehost account to a different provider.

How to Transfer a Domain from Bluehost

Some important things to consider before transferring your domain from Bluehost.

  • Before transferring your domain, it’s essential to know that the name servers associated with your domain will not change during the transition. For example, if your domain is set up to use Bluehost as its default name servers, they will be preserved, and you won’t be able to change them until the transfer is complete. On the other hand, there may be a time when transferring your website to a different hosting company and using additional name servers for the domain. So, before initiating a move, ensure that the domain name points to those new name servers. Again, as previously mentioned, you won’t be able to change these settings until the transfer is complete.
  • Your domain name registration and web hosting are two different services. The domain name transfer process will not automatically migrate your website. It will transfer the domain name only.
  • Once the domain transfer is complete, your domain’s renewal will be extended by another year. So if your domain was set to expire on January 1, 2023, for example, once the transfer is complete, you’ll renew on January 1, 2024.
  • Before you move a domain name, we recommend checking its status. For example, you want to be sure that the domain hasn’t already been registered or transferred within the last 60 days.
  • To avoid inconvenience, ensure the domain names are in their Active periods and not in Redemption Grace Period or Pending Delete.
  • Make sure the domain name you want to transfer from Bluehost to another registrar should be unlocked for transfer at Bluehost
